Wrapping up the first phase of LSM project, the group will
be bringing the collected books to Tadyawan School in the town of Victoria in
Oriental Mindoro this May 25, 2012.
The school is said to be populated by Tadyawan (Mangyan
Tribe) kids. A total of 287 books will
be delivered to the beneficiary school in Mindoro. “Between those who live in the
cities or developed communities and rural ones, the latter needs more attention
and help,” said Chard Policarpio, project head. The books, estimated to cost
about P13,000, come from different donors mostly young professionals. “We
really appreciate our book donors. Despite their busy work schedules, they
took time-out to help us with this project,” adds Policarpio.
LSM iShare-a-Book Project kick started early February which
aims to share the values of sharing, love of reading among children, and
promote literacy and access to quality education. The beneficiaries are school
communities of Mangyan and Aetas. In an earlier statement, LSM has wished to
help indigent children access books to supplement their studies.
LSM is also preparing for the second leg of its project. The
second batch of donation will be given to the school community of Aetas in
